Community Initiatives GROUP WISHES TO PRESERVE SIMPSON'S HILL - After 20 years' of effort, the 2004 Celebrations and a quarry threat breathes new life into the effort to save and preserve Simpson's Hill or "Champlain's Lookout". Learn more ... for stewards and volunteers and expressed an interest in working with groups in the St. Croix River Valley with a view to offering a specially designed program for participants from both sides of the border. DOMTAR MEETS WITH PUBLIC OVER WATER CRISIS .Domtar oifficials met with a large group of concerned citizens at the Lions Hall in McAdam on monday night (2/4/02). It was explanined that the current drought, the driest year since 1895, has created unusal conditions creating extream low water in all the lake reservoirs. See pictures... NEW SCEP BOARD EXECUTIVE 1/23/02 A new Board Executive was appointed last night at the January Board meeting held at the library in St. Stephen. Bill McAlister, Chair; Sean Hanlon, Vice-chair; Susan Eddy, Secretary, Al Corbett, Treasurer. Art MacKay's position as Executive Director was confirmed. The Board welcomed Roy Parker of Environment Canada, SCEP's new 'window" to ACAP administration. Roy works and lives in Fredericton and the Board is looking forward to an active and beneficial relationship with Roy. Welcome Roy! More about the SCEP Board ... AND THE WINNER IS ....Monday, January 21,2002 - SCEP's Art MacKay chose the winner of CBC's "Name the Bubbles" contest this morning. The winner is Arlene Haddon of St. Stephen with the name CHAMPLAIN BUBBLES. Runners-up are Tiddy Bubbles (Pat Parent and Stan Hart), and Champagne Sea (Owen Abbot). Introducing Jennifer Cameron, Environmental Technologists Ganong Nature Park News - (Park Web Site) Latest Donor and Lot Sales Figures for January 25th, 2001 Todd's Point Orchard will receive Professional Attention. Mayfield Greenhouses have just announced a special course during which the orchard at the Ganong Park will receive some special attention. Daryl Hunter, co-ordinator & director of the Heritage orchard project at Kings Landing, will present a seminar on Francis Peabody Sharp & Heritage Apple Varieties on Tues March 12, 7:00 to 9:00. A practical workshop will be held on Sat Mar 16 from 10 to 2 with Garth Nickerson. There will be a theory session on rejunvenate pruning, a box lunch social ,then a practical session at Todd's Point where we will actually prune some of the trees in the orchard. Fred Nicholson assumes chair of Ganong Park Project - with Mark Bader moving on to a position with the Provincial Government, there have been a few changes. Read all about it... GANONG NATURE PARK FUNDRAISING APPROACHING CRITICAL PERIOD. While the fundraising program for the Ganong Nature Park has been a phenominal success, the March 16th, 2001 deadline for paying the mortgage looms large, and cash in the bank has a considerable way to go. If you've made a pledge, please send your cheque as soon as possible. If you intend to donate, this is the time! Bill Nelson resigns as Chair of the Management Plan Committee. With the resignation of Bill Nelson, the Management Plan Committee recently elected Dan Harrington, Park Trustee, as their new Chair. Tony Reader will be backing up Dan as Vice-Chair. This committee has contributed substantially to the development of a plan to be used in the future operation of the Park. Everyone will wish to thank Bill Nelson for his contributions.
