SCEP NEWS

MAY - JUNE

• 2003 CONCLUDED - Another active year concluded on March 31. For the first time in a long time, the business of the preceeding year was finished by the end of April, with only a few minor issues to be resolved subsequently.

• GRANTS AND AWARDS -  We are pleased to announce that ACAP St. Croix has received funding from a variety of sources and it appears that this year's initiatives will proceed very much as originally planned.

1. ACAP Approves Programs for 2004. ACAP St. Croix Programs for 2004 have been approved as submitted.
   
2. HRDC Provides Funding for Park Guides - wW are delighted to report that we have received funding for 2 guides to work this summer at the Ganong Nature Park.
3. ACOA Development Plan Submitted -  A development plan, based on the BDA Report was submitted for consideration by ACOA. You can review the BDA plan here.

• JENNIFER CAMERON RECEIVES PAUL CASEY ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD - Environmentalist Jennifer Cameron was awarded the Paul Casey Environmental Award at a small ceremony held in St. Stephen today. The award is given annually by ACAP St. Croix to a member of the community who has made a significant contribution to improving the environment and quality of life in the St. Croix River Valley . More
• GANONG PARK VISITED BY GHOST. First it was aliens and crop circles, now its ghosts. It really was "a dark and stormy night" when over 20 local folks went to the Ganong Cottage at the Park to hear ghost John Nathaniel Leavitt tell stories about his many friends from "the other side". An experience no one will soon forget delivered by master storyteller David Goss
• THE GREAT NORTHERN TURTLE RELEASE. The "golf balls" in Paul Donahue's gravel shipment turned out to be snapping turtle eggs that hatched out at the SCEP offices in St. Stephen. Kids from the Milltown elementary School helped us release them in "The Bog" at Milltown.
• FUNDY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT GOES TO DIGITAL PROJECTOR PURCHASE. SCEP has entered the modern age, thaniks to a grant for FCF which provided funds to upgrader our presentation equipment. Art and Jennifer made the first powerpoint presentation to a group of teachers taking the museums course at NBCC in St. Andrews. Thanks FCF.
• The Falls Brook Centre's Big Blue Bus has come and gone. See some pictures taken at the St. Stephen Elementary School.
• Jennifer's Back - Her first sky diving jump. Photos - Before ...Soaring ... Landing.
• Ganong Nature Park makes the Canadian Crop Circles Research Network. Click through to Crop Circles 2002 to see Steven and the crop circles (looks like someone gave Steven a moustache! More ...
• Property Tax Exemption -Last year SCEP applied for a property tax exemption on the Ganong Nature Park Property. Word was received just before Christmas that this was approved ... talk about a Christmas present!!
• Ganong Nature Park Chosen. We were delight to learn from a recent edition of the Telegraph Reader, that our Park was chosen as one of the 10 best places to visit in New Brunswick. We will try to get the story up in a subsequent edition.
